Details

Skill Development:

  • Use Medial and lateral approaches
  • Use suprapatellar and parapatellar insertion sites
  • Learn to milk the suprapatellar pouch
  • Palpating anatomic landmarks significant to the procedure

Features and Benefits:

  • Durable tissue is refillable and can be used repeatedly; it is also easily replaced
  • Anatomy includes: patella, patella ligament, tibia, fibula, femur, synovial sac, and synovial fluid
  • Medial and lateral approaches
  • Both suprapatellar and parapatellar insertion sites
  • Ability to milk the suprapatellar pouch
  • Ability to increase or decrease size of effusion with up to 60 cc of fluid
  • Palpable anatomy and realistic needle response
  • Realistic tactile feedback includes:
    • sensation of bony contact if needle hits the patella
    • sensation of bony contact if needle hits the femur
    • inability to aspirate the syringe while the needle tip is in the soft tissue superficial to the join capsule
    • easy aspiration of joint fluid into the syringe once entry has been achieved
